Netflix’s Dept. Q, A New Crime Hit for Netflix?

Netflix’s Dept. Q is the latest crime thriller that’s keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. Set in Scotland, this dark and gritty investigative drama follows Detective Carl Morck (played by Matthew Goode) as he tackles cold cases in a basement office filled with forgotten mysteries.

A New Crime Hit for Netflix?

2025 has been a strong year for British series on Netflix, with Toxic Town and Adolescence making waves. Now, Dept. Q, based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s best-selling Danish novel The Keeper of Lost Causes, is adding to the lineup. The show relocates the original story to Scotland, where Morck, after a traumatic shootout, is assigned to lead Department Q—a unit dedicated to solving cold cases.

A Team of Misfits

Morck isn’t alone in his mission. He’s joined by Akram Salim (Alexej Manvelov), a Syrian refugee with a mysterious past, and Detective Constable Rose Dickson (Leah Byrne). Together, they take on the case of Merritt Lingard (Chloe Pirrie), a prosecutor believed to have drowned four years ago.

A Twisted Mystery

Lingard’s disappearance is far more sinister than it seems. She was held captive in a hyperbaric chamber, tortured by Lyle and Ailsa Jennings. The psychological depth of the show, combined with its intense performances, makes Dept. Q a standout crime drama.

Will There Be a Season 2?

The show leaves plenty of unanswered questions, including the identity of the shooter from the opening scene and Akram’s enigmatic history. With 11 novels in the Dept. Q series, there’s plenty of material for future seasons.
